Edgework media is a documentary production company and consulting firm founded by
Richard and Heike Wells in 2003 in Washington, DC. We specialize in history, science, and social issues.
In the summer of 2019, Edgework media moved to Frankfurt, Germany.

Clients include National Geographic Channel, Discovery Channel, Science Channel, Smithsonian Channel,
Discovery Health Channel, TV One, and the USO.

Richard J. Wells

 

is an award-winning film production veteran with over 30 years of experience as director, writer and producer as well as production executive. Most recently, Richard received a Primetime EMMY award for his contributions as National Geographic Channel’s executive producer on the special SPACE DIVE while two of his other projects KILLING LINCOLN and KILLING KENNEDY were nominated for 3 Primetime EMMYs each.


He oversaw innovative series such as INSIDE COMBAT RESCUE, CAR CZAR, THE NUMBERS GAME, MAMMOTH UNEARTHED, and AMISH: OUT OF ORDER. For Edgework media Richard executive-produced, among others projects, the extremely successful series WHAT THE ANCIENTS KNEW for the Science Channel.

 

From 1996-2003 Richard worked as Vice President of Production for TLC where he launched the popular and award-winning shows TRADING SPACES, JUNKYARD WARS, WHILE YOU WERE OUT and WHAT NOT TO WEAR. 

 

Under Richard’s guidance, many productions have won prestigious industry awards, most notably: the theatrical release documentary ON THE ROPES which received an Oscar Nomination, the Sundance Filmfestival Award, the Worldfest Houston Gold Medal, The Golden Gate, the Silver Spire, and The International Documentary Association Award.

Heike G. Wells

 

is a producer, writer, and production manager as well as Edgework media’s CFO
and Managing Partner.

Included among Heike's credits are the long-running series: WHAT THE ANCIENTS KNEW
and STARSHIP ORION: The Future of Space Travel for the Science Channel, the talk
show series: EVEREST: AFTER THE CLIMB for the Discovery Channel, and the Freddie-
Award winning special PROGERIA: Too Young to be Old (best documentary in
the category of children’s health) for Discovery Health Channel.

Building on her extensive experience in strategic marketing for Fortune 100 and
500 companies, Heike’s expertise in international strategic partnerships as well
as international press & PR brings a keen awareness of audience expectations
to the Edgework media team.

​

Her responsibilities at Edgework media include development, script writing,
domestic and international location production, production coordination
and management.
